Perhaps your wondering why buy some worms when you have some in the ground at home correct ?
Let me save you the trouble that I went through learning the difference between garden or field worms and composting worms . I too once thought hey I want worms ! So I grabbed my shovel and got a few from the ground , stuck them in a bin and .... watched them die !
Why ?? Was I a bad farmer ?
Nope not at all
Common earthworms( garden worms ) and common nightcrawlers just don't survive well in bins since they normally live deep under the soil surface . A bin is just not a very good home for them . They need plenty of room to roam . So spare yourself the trouble of having to clean out a bucket of goo like I did and start out right with some composting worms .
